Boy, did they underestimate that. Bruce Campbell really should have been a ticketed event... I got there at 6:20 and the downstairs of the U Bookstore was crammed. I didn't end up sticking around for the signing because I was too frazzled, but interested parties can read what happened to [livejournal.com profile] lithera. The half-hour that I did get to see (for some value of "see") Mr. Campbell was very amusing, and the fans were great. I was standing by a guy who had a chainsaw he could wear over his hand and wanted to get it signed. I hope they had a good variety of pens.

I was also reminded of just how great the U Bookstore is, especially in the SF department. They somehow manage to have a copy of Bridge of Birds on the shelf most of the times I go in there, and that's a highly esteemed and thoroughly out of print book. They also had pseudonymously authored books under the name of the actual author, and I found the book I wanted (new Tamora Pierce yay!) and several more besides.
As Wim and I were brushing each other's hair this morning, we happened to discuss a stupid radio commercial. [Footnote: I have the alarm on radio, because the stupidity of the morning DJs causes me to get out of bed far more effectively than a mere beeping.] It was for some matchmaking site that I don't remember the name of but had resolved not to publicize anyway. It was mainly just stupid, but contained the immortal line, "Your soul mate could be on line right now!"

*snicker*

I have had occasion recently to think about whether I believe I have a soul mate, and the answer is a big fat NO. I don't think that other people can't, but I'm pretty sure I don't. It's a metaphysical idea, I have a metaphysical certainty about it. Works for me. But... if I did have any, of course they would be on line a lot. Probably right now, if they're in a time zone that means they're already awake.

So I said something goofy about it being a contradiction and a tautology all at the same time, and Wim said, "It's a contradiction, wrapped in a tautology, wrapped in an enchilada!"

Okay, that is my cute boyfriend quote story for the day. Please throw fresh tomatoes; the rotten ones displease the cats.

boom!

What appears to be a pirate ship has just fired a cannon out on Lake Union. There does not seem to have been a projectile involved, but it was quite thoroughly loud. Fun! My colleagues are trying to tell me that they did it about two weeks ago, too, so I wonder where I've been. I could not have missed it.
