our house

Finally, Wim and I have signed a lease!

The place is huge, four bedrooms and a ton of other space. It's the ground and second floors of a giant light-purple house (with sky-blue and magenta trim!!!1!) a few blocks north of Green Lake. There's a lot of road noise, because it's right next to I-5, but it's okay inside, and I get to play in the dirt! And the cats are welcome! I am so excited. (And still residually nervous, and nervous for later, but wheeeee!)

It's very close to North Seattle Community College, so I need to do some looking at their course catalogue this afternoon. They haven't gotten back to me about my application yet, where Seatle Central has, so I may attend SCCC for spring quarter and then switch. The buses are good from the new place, it wouldn't be that hard.

The house is huge inside, and there's new carpet. The bathrooms look like they need some maintenance, and most of the bedrooms are pretty small, but the kitchen is big and roomy with loads of cabinets and there's a laundry room with a full-sized washer and dryer. Did I mention that they're going to let me play in the dirt? And the owners are remodeling their part of the house, so they have the skills to take care of any problems. And it's purple! (Wim and I agreed that we would not want to paint our house purple, but living in one that's that way already is neat.)

There are still people living there, which is maybe not so good, but I'm sure that we can move a couple of days after the beginning of the month if we have to. There's a vacant apartment that's perfectly congruent with mine in this building, so it's not like someone will be moving into this one straightaway. Those people might be out by then, too, and the landlord said he would call us a week or so ahead of time.

We went to a celebratory lunch with my mom and found her some Thai food she liked, so it's been a good day all around. Now I try to flump down and de-stress some. Or stay keyed up and pack. Hmm...

That place sounds like a nice size for two people, and a good location too. Congratulations!

If it sounds right for two, then I have failed to convey its magnitude. :) This is not the "large" of the advertisements that really means medium. It's bloody huge. I think we will rattle around a lot in it and look for a third person to live in it with us.

Wow! But I thought you were moving partly because of finances, with giving up the awful job and going to college? So how are you going to afford this "bloody huge" place?

Just concerned for you, not trying to pry. It sounds really good, and I know you're sensible - I'm just wondering, & stuff.

It costs less. :)

Living with people is all efficient or something.

No fair burning down our nice new house! I'm pretty sure there was something in the lease about that. (Or maybe we just have to replace the fixtures and the appliances? Not sure.)

woohoo!

Happy Lease Signing!

I am awfully fond of the color purple (no, really!) so I am already charmed without even having seen it.

Woohoo! I see why you were so unwilling to jinx yourself by discussing house stuff at lunch. It sounds fabulous.

Is true. I wonder why, fear of Giant Acts of Empurpling maybe.

Jinxless congratulations on the house, dirt, lake, sky-blue/magenta trim (w00t, it probably shakes rain off it like a dog does).

If/when you need help moving, be sure to let me know. After years of having a surplus of moving karma, I'm actually in the position of having to pay a little bit of it back for a change. :)

Love the sound of the colour scheme, btw. :-) You planning on posting pics after you've moved in?

*hug* Well done, and best of luck to you both; hope all subsequent house-associated stuff is smooth and straightforward.

Oh nice! I was having imaginings of you and Wim living all cramped up some place, and that making you very unhappy eventually (says she who has much need of space).

Huge is great! Cat acceptance is also great (for people who have cats, and at least where I live, which is no where near where you live, finding cats-okay space can be difficult).

I'm glad for you and wish you much goodness in schooooool!
