Some of you may remember my nuttering about feeling creative for a change last Friday. Well, I didn't get to it until Saturday, but I did make something.

(And I meant muttering up there, but that is way too good a typo not to share.)

That's beautiful. Is it a bracelet or a headband? Looks braceletty, from the ends.

Thanks. It is a bracelet. I think I'd be scared to make a headband using that technique if the person who wanted to wear it anticipated having hair afterward. Might work, though.

Wow. That's gorgeous. I love it.

I'd love to have a choker something like that.

I'd be happy to make you one. I'm still practicing this technique, so I could even do it for free provided I didn't use any expensive beads. Email me and tell me what metals and colors you like. Probably I'd need an approximate neck measurement too.

Seriously nifty. (Then again, you know me and my love of that shade of blue...)

Very nifty.

Ooooo. Aaaaaa.

I'd pay for a choker like that. Well, once I got a job and have got/paid for the necklace and earrings I pre-ordered from [livejournal.com profile] clairaide, I would.

Hmmm. Guess I should email you and get an estimate.

Oooo... nifty-pretty! It looks like, like... it reminds me of atoms, subatomic particles. I love the sense of motion it implies. Excellent. :)

pretty! shiny!

The technique is called "wandering wire", and it does in fact work for headbands, although it's true that one has to be a bit careful putting them on and taking them off again. (Paying particular attention to the wrapping of ends will help with that.) I have a couple in sterling silver just now, one with faceted labradorites, and one with almost-pure-white pearls, and am expecting my photographer friend to do shots of them tomorrow, so I can bring you the URL if you like. (And there may be somewhere on the web some shots of author Molly Gloss wearing the Tiptree Award tiara, which is wandering wire in several different gauges of sterling silver with four different shades of pearl ranging from white to blue-grey.)

As for your copper-and-blue, it's a lovely piece, dear! Good color choices.

signed,
Elise who showed jinian how to do this fun technique (woo-hoo! knowledge exchange!), and who is way into textile/fiber techniques in metal (well, that, and making hedgehog necklaces, lately)

P.S. Next time we're hanging out together with wire, remind me to take you through the three dimensions of wandering wire geometry and how they relate to jewelry-building, OK? It's math-geek fun, hands-on.
