Home to the Pacific Northwest! (I guess I could do this, but so far academia has won out.)
If money was no object, Boston & the Bay Area would probably be next in line, due to density of college friends. Plus maybe San Diego? For actually affordable places, Madison & the Twin Cities are very high on my list.
Northampton would be so nice but so weird for me. I have a lot of feelings about having to leave Mount Holyoke due to illness. (Unfortunately, my time back in MA has not remotely been the vindicated return I was looking for.)
New Zealand. It looks exactly like you might expect after watching LOTR, and has a *heavenly* climate. And no bushfires. They have a butt-tonne of interesting plants, so I imagine they also have plant bio PhDs. :-7
