o Mom started dinner without us on Easter, when I had texted ahead all responsibly to say we were ten minutes late. But that is the worst thing that happened so I guess whatever.

o No email back yet from the latest appealing postdoc position.

+++ Wiscon program assignments! My panel made it to the list! And I hope the other panelists say yes, because AWESOME. Also I get to be on the ponies panel! I may require a plush Rainbow Dash for the occasion. (I'm up against a few things I'd like to attend; on the other hand there appear to be TWO dance parties on different nights, so yay Wiscon.)

- Effing experiments.

++ Set up Hex's new tank on new tank stand and made other significant improvements in living-room organization. Once the tank and stand prove themselves non-leaky I can move things into the shelving and reduce the room's clutter to previous unmanageable levels.

++ Cleaned the fucking WINDOWS like an ADULT. Also washed the curtains that had cat hair on them.

- Anti-abortion posters appearing along my walk to school.

+ They're coming down as fast as they're going up, and I have some ideas for satirical counterattacks.

+ Talked to E! She's a former department employee who's retired except for six hours a month, and I was lucky to run into her.

+ Dinner at the awesome Katsu Burger last night with my sweetie. 12-spice fries are a little too sweet but tasty, teriyaki chicken sandwich good. The deep-fried meats are, appropriately, their strength.

- Uwajimaya continues not to really be a Japanese supermarket, and this upsets me.

It's all wrooooooong :(

The building it's in is wrong: the floors and walls aren't that nice, and the ceiling isn't finished so it's grubby-looking up there. They don't have the "here are all the convenient fried things in the world" section, which is what I wanted last night; there was no way to buy katsu, and the people who work thought maybe in the deli sometimes? but the deli was closed. I do not wish to deep-fry things myself, and in Japan one doesn't need to!

They don't really have the right produce, though I think that must be pretty hard to do. Available curry options are also inadequate, though I am going to try this recipe tonight. They do have Enough Seafood, though. And I know they're really being an Asian market, not just Japanese, and they do a good job. But it makes me really homesick for Japan, and then I feel like I don't have a right to be, and argh.

Kinokuniya is in there, too, though, and they do Japan-in-Seattle right. Your purchases are carefully wrapped and taped closed, but it's in a post-consumer recycled paper bag. :)

Yeeaaaah... I always feel like that when I am at Ranch 99, and realize it is not exactly reasonable to expect them to be like a Taiwan supermarket where the aisle of soy sauce has a billionty types and brands, as opposed to the three or four here.

I'm having trouble believing your mom didn't hold Easter dinner for you! Also does your family not have space between arrival time and eating time for socializing and drinking wine? That's sad. :(

Anyway, yay for all the yay things! I soooo wish I were going to Wiscon. *Two* dance parties! No way! I hope your panel is awesome!

I think the dinner thing was a combination of "Wim doesn't really want to be there so I try to drag him for the minimum time possible" and "Kylee is literal and doesn't get cultural standards." The email said dinner was at 5, so we were going to show up at 5, but apparently everyone else had indeed gotten there earlier than that and executed some sort of social interaction.

The first dance party is karaoke/dance, so I don't know how danceable it will really be, but there will also be Genderfloomp. I am all excited about my panel too, and will definitely report!
