Sep. 23rd, 2001 07:50 amI am up way too early for a Sunday morning. The stealthy sounds of someone dumpster diving seem to have been what woke me. I laid in bed for a long time, half-awake and listening, first trying to define the sound and then being convinced that I should offer the person some breakfast.
When I got up, dressed, and went out on the terrace, though, the person had gone. I'd waited too long trying to figure out how to ask whether scrambled eggs and toast were okay, wondering whether I had paper plates, trying to guess whether the person would be offended by my offer.
I have been all humanitarian lately, but it hasn't affected my personal interactions much. I thought I was waiting because I was half-asleep, but I think really it was because this situation crossed the line between general and interpersonal. I was trying to think of ways to keep the person distant. I didn't want to have to interact, I just wanted to provide help. Pretty characteristic of me after all.
So I am now awake appallingly early. I guess I can use the time to work on some of my projects. But first, some scrambled eggs and toast.
