sweet stories
Jul. 21st, 2012 12:15 pmMy current problem with narrative doesn't extend to everything, thank god, or I wouldn't know what to do with myself. Of the things that work, there appears to be something of a saccharine theme.
Sweet! A Love Story Told in Sugar. Okay, whatever, it is adult Kurt and Blaine from Glee in an alternate universe, blah blah. It is FOOD PORN and PORN WITH FOOD. The framing is just a little too precious for me, but the PASTRY. And the cute boys being fools for each other, no objections there. No idea whether the recipes work. (Work in progress.)
Sugar Sugar Rune, Moyoco Anno. This is cute and fun and oddly moral, and it's doing something I can't quite put my finger on too. More impressive than I expected.
What Happened to Goodbye, Sarah Dessen. The name that the main character doesn't change when moving to different schools is her last name: Sweet. And, of course, Dessen is touching; there's believable love there.
The Grand Sophy and Venetia, Georgette Heyer. Less literal in their sweetness, but totally unrealistic and absurd and great. I must say that I did not remember this many baskets of small animals in the other Heyer I've read? But I don't object per se.
