Everyone else interested finished reading the entire archive a month ago, but not me! YAY GRAD SCHOOL.
The Fleshy Thing, by elementalv
Shaun Tan's Lost Thing had a plan all along. Brilliant!
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont, by thecolourclear (afinch)
Of the five (!) stories based on "99 Luftballons", this was the most dystopian and my favorite.
Two Maids Dusting, by psocoptera
Nearly perfect Leviathan fic finds both Deryn and Alex in skirts coping with an evil plot among suffragettes. Great world expansion and voice.
The Sword and the Dagger, by Edonohana
The best non-Brust Dragaera story ever. Seriously. Structure, in-jokes, fairy-tale references, Cawti and Norathar.
The Alchemy of Naming, by sophiahelix
Gloriously written fic about Devi from the Kingkiller Chronicle that illuminates more than you think at the start.
As Simple as That, by wallmaker_relict
Girl Genius OT3! At least as believable as the canon. :)
One Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty-Three Feet, by Kyra Cullinan
Ferris Bueller OT3! Does wonderful things with the underappreciated Sloan.
Springtime in Ihistan, by Blue (abluestocking)
I had always wondered about Harry's great-grandmother, so I wanted to rec this one. But the one that stuck with me was really:
The First Ride of Othalan-sol, by randomeliza.
The Women of Amphissa, by Gehayi
This is completely bizarre and ridiculous, yet at the same time excellent. I can't do better than the author's summary: "A Mongol woman warrior, a Chinese princess who overthrew the Emperor, a cross-dressing French writer and an Egyptian inventor-mathematician help a city of quasi-Roman lesbians to outwit and defeat a host of aliens who treat humans as toys to be tested to destruction. Also features clockpunk attack robots, lesbian kissage, assorted dinosaurs and a telepathic pteranodon."
The End and the Way, by Luzula
Coming of age as a pervert on Gethen. Beautiful, with just the right tone.
Carrying the Banner, by ceitean
Epic Newsflesh fic of Shaun and George as kids, finding a calling.
Just like the snow, by dysenchanted2
An ending for Nana.
Deserve Each Other, by Lexie
Kim Pine is one of the many Best Parts of Scott Pilgrim.
And Revisions, by acrossthefloors
In which Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead. Or not.
Etch out a Future of Your Own Design, by thefourthvine
Note-perfect Real Genius fic. I did not think that I would like Chris/Mitch, but this is so very right. And it's named from Thomas Dolby lyrics.
Dulce et Decorum Est, by magelette
Things that had never occurred to me: Buri/Raoul/Kel. But it works here.
Her Lovely Face Gleaming Like a White Poppy, by loathlylady
Long, chewy fic about Megan Whalen Turner's queens.
Faster, by Kastaka
Dang. This is really rather good Culture fic. It's a little more confusing than Banks ever is, but an extremely worthy effort.
By the World Forgot, by Erin_C
The story of Kamaji from Spirited Away. Hopefully everyone has already seen this, since I saw it recced all over, but one can't just leave it off the list.
Swan White and Raven Red, by emei
A fairy tale subverted by a relationship between girls. Well, and archetypes. It is Tutu fic, after all.
[My mom got me the Tutu box set for Xmas! It has only been on my wish list for five years or so. Must rewatch soon!]
