What games for the Wii are fun? I have Nights Into Dreams, and that's it. (Okami I have for PS2 -- really I am looking for another Okami, but I will try to content myself with lesser things.) Will it play earlier Nintendo games? I mostly like RPGs and oddities.

My classmates at FHL mentioned that they were starting to associate me with FRUIT by the time we were done. They didn't seem to understand that it was SUMMER. Today at the farmers' market I got about 5 pounds of delicious peaches and nectarines, four Ginger Gold apples, and a half-flat of blueberries. And at home I had only-decent cherries already. And plums on the trees. Maybe they have a point.

I'm probably not a good source, since I am not a gamer, but Zelda (heh, you probably have it already!)? Not sure if that counts as RPG. It is definitely entertaining enough to watch though!

Btw, how would Okami be for someone who enjoys playing puzzle stuff but cannot fight or navigate quickly through things or do anything that requires fine motor skills to save her life?

No, I seriously have only one game for Wii! No Zelda as yet, partly because I tried to play Ocarina of Time and couldn't even get out of the village with its awful controls. But I should at least try the new Zelda on the revolutionary new controllers. I'm wondering now if I could rent games from anywhere nearby to see whether they're worth buying.

I want you to love love love Okami! I'm crap at complex fighting moves, too, and they totally were not required, but I may have higher dex overall than you do. There are parts where you have to jump or do brush moves as well as bash on the weapon button, so it might be too much, but I think [livejournal.com profile] baratron has claimed to be bad at such things and she did love love love the game appropriately. It's planned so that you ramp up slowly on the brush moves and the battle difficulty, and any timing/movement stuff in the puzzles actually gets easier progressively as you fail to manage it. (That annoyed me in one place, since it had fun skill development potential but I didn't improve quickly enough before it became dead easy.) The premise, story, and look would make you really happy, though! It's fun and interesting and beautiful, and there are a bunch of takeoffs on Japanese folklore, and you are a WOLF who is a GODDESS and flowers spring up where you run!!1! Definitely try it if you get the chance.

Oooo! I am now looking for used copies of Okami Wii! Possibly I will suck at the fighting, but it sounds so pretty.....

I think I tried Ocarina of Time a long time ago and couldn't get past the first challenge. I never tried playing Wind Waker, but I watched my (now ex) boyfriend play it through, and it was incredibly fun to watch! Also, the animation is just SO CUTE! It's sort of 2D-ish cell-shading or something instead of the usual hexagon whatnot things (haha, I know so little about video games), so everything is incredibly stylized and sort of cartoony and I love it so much.

Zelda

Ocarina of Time is not the best Zelda ever. On the GameCube port, I have got as far as the last dungeon but have basically given up there. I find it too frightening when the monsters jump out at me, even when I KNOW exactly where a monster will do that! On the other hand, Wind Waker is amazing - I spent many hours doing all the side quests, visiting the unimportant islands to collect all the spare Pieces of Heart, etc. I love love love the graphics, and find it significantly less scary that OoT. I also managed to finish it, although I'm sure that Richard helped me do the final boss because it was too difficult for me.

The Wii will play all GameCube games, which is fortunate as I'm yet to find a decent Wii game. Richard bought me Twilight Princess, but the controls are too difficult for me. Both Richard and Alexa have far more dex than me (heh), and are struggling with it to the point of giving up. It is highly tedious at the beginning and doesn't look fun the way Wind Waker (and Phantom Princess) do.

Boom Blox is much fun.

And it'll play earlier games, but only if you download them off of the Wii shopping channel. I play the original Mario Brothers pretty frequently, 'cuz I'm a BIG GEEK.

Actually, the Wii will play Gamecube games directly, if you have an old Gamecube controller to plug into it. The stuff on the Wii shopping channel is for even older systems, mostly.

Thanks, I think I'm going to look for a place to rent games and will try that one.

I sometimes play Blaster Master on my original NES, which still works. Who is the bigger geek? :)

If you have the numchucks, the fencing game is hilarious.

The nunchuk is standard equipment. The Monkey Ball games do sound like fun. And it has just occurred to me that I bet Omni has a bunch of these, particularly this one...

Lego Star Wars! Lego Indiana Jones is fun, too, but Star Wars was better. (Indy is more about puzzles; Star Wars was more about whacking things with lightsabers. The Wiimote whip action for Indy is cool, though.)

And yes, if you have the right controllers, you can play old Nintendo games, either with Gamecube discs or by downloading them from the Wii shopping channel. G. and Liam have been playing Paper Mario for months, first the old Nintendo 64 version, then the Gamecube one, and now they're about to start the Wii one.

Whip action?! Okay, I and everyone I squealed to in the lab when I saw this in email earlier now really want to play that!

I'm hoping I can get the Wii-controller download of some Gamecube stuff, since I haven't had another Nintendo console after la vielle NES.

Buy a GameCube controller second-hand or from eBay?

I can recommend several GameCube games. For example, if you haven't already played them, I recommend you get Pikmin and Pikmin 2 (and play them in that order) - very fun puzzle-y type games with cute little critters. There is also Animal Crossing - although it may be worth waiting for the Wii version than putting time into the GameCube version.

Pokemon XD is fun, and playable even if you are completely new to Pokemon. Do not touch Pokemon Colosseum with a bargepole. It is tedious even if you're the world's biggest Pokemon fan!

And mmm, fruit! Summer! Duh! One must enjoy it while it lasts. Our cherries are all gone already, alas, but at least we got them this year, not the birds.

Our weekly fruit box has had Ginger Golds in it the last two weeks. I'd never had a yellow apple I actually liked before. (Of course, it's not really apple season until we can haz Honeycrisps, but these are nice until then.)

Did I already tell you about the mysterious power that Golden Delicious apples have to taste actually good if eaten just after picking? Strange stuff, and not to be counted on. Mostly I am in denial about the coming of apple season, even the Honeycrisps; I am just not done with summer (fruit) yet.
