I am such a sad, sad nerd that my first reaction on looking at the board was "You should have started EXCITE four spaces to the left to put X on a double letter score."

... not to mention I didn't even notice the board had shrunk, so your current play is pointswise superior. That seems pretty darn abusable that the first player has a decent chance of getting a word scored at 6x. O_O
