I'm actually pretty well decided on Hoffman, since I see her less often. Bujold's been to Seattle several times in the last few years, compared to Hoffman's once. Also I adore Hoffman's work in a way that even Bujold cannot match.
But I'll make an effort to find LMB and convey your kidnaming. :)
What I'd suggest is approaching both authors earlier, explaining the dilemma, and asking what they're going to read. Then you'll be in an informed position.
Personally, I never go to readings unless they're of things I've already read or short stories or poems -- I avoid readings of bits of unread novels, because it tends to screw up the pacing of the novel for me to have heard part of it in advance and thought about that part before getting the rest.
I haven't been before, but I seem to recall kalmn was programming goddess last year too, so it can't have been too different. It is going to be so good. Now I see how people get hugely overextended at these things.
