Snow. Vestiges here, down from a couple of inches; over a foot in Quilcene last I heard. Blooming cherry trees. Sheesh.

Still v. annoyed with the library for taking down the telnet catalog access and providing no text-based (or even non-IE-Javascript-wanting) alternative until an unknown time. Sent another annoyed letter today pointing out that searching for "dunkle, c" really ought to get a person Clare B. Dunkle rather than "no match".

Highly recommended temp agency had an appointment two weeks out. Probably taking a trip or two next week, Bug Zoo and Portland people being the main attractions (one north, one south).

Having to answer the phone even when it's marketers, since jobs might be calling. How can recorded marketing calls not be illegal?

Xmas camellia is done blooming. Need to de-decorate it. It will stay inside until spring to make sure it doesn't get injured by the cold, now that it's used to indoors.

Patellar tendonitis in knees means I ought not to sit with knees bent even 90 degrees for very long. I have exercises to do and confirmation that the yoga poses I'm not doing are ones not to do. Walking is also good, but I haven't been doing enough of that.

No word on what the two sore fingers (middle and ring) on my right hand are about, but they don't seem to be arthritic. Tried doing no knitting, mousing, or Playstationing for several days, which yielded no particular change. Massage doesn't help either. Another tendon thing? Ideas welcome.

Making lots of earrings. Alexander's is cutting way back on their bead selection, and I got many grab bags of good random stuff. Photos soon.

Holiday madness is complete, with Wim's and Mom's birthdays past. So many leftovers, mostly Chinese. (The Teapot has tried to take their rose "chicken" off the menu, but they fail, because it is so good. Ate that leftover dish first.)

Cats continue rotten. Humans continue mostly all right. Plants remain crazy, mostly. Bird hasn't been home in a while.

Did you ever have a previous injury to those fingers? This is the time of year when my past slow-healing injuries start aching and feel injured all over again--cold and moist. I should try a heating pad.

No injuries to those that I remember at all, no. My once-sprained hip is grouchy at me, though, so I know what you mean.

Recorded marketing calls

Man gets $500 from autotelemarketer (seattle p-i)

RCW 80.36.400: Automatic dialing and announcing device — Commercial solicitation by.

Several websites say that the individual states' laws against recorded telemarketing calls is mirrored in Federal legislation. I can't find anything exactly to that effect on the FTC website; the closest I can find is 47 CFR §310.4(b)(1)(iv): "Abusive telemarketing acts or practices. Pattern of calls. It is an abusive telemarketing act or practice and a violation of this Rule for a telemarketer to engage in … [a]bandoning any outbound telephone call. An outbound telephone call is "abandoned" under this section if a person answers it and the telemarketer does not connect the call to a sales representative within two (2) seconds of the person's completed greeting." However, 310.4(b)(4) gives some exceptions to (b)(1)(iv), which mostly look like good-faith exceptions but I haven't read them closely.

Ah, here we are. 47 CFR §64.1200(a)(2). ("Subpart L—Restrictions on Telemarketing and Telephone Solicitation; Delivery Restrictions")

  3. Is made for a commercial purpose but does not include or introduce an unsolicited advertisement or constitute a telephone solicitation,
