well, fuck me.

I think I know what this week's political letter is going to say to my state legislature. Apart from that, well, don't ask me what I'm going to do.

Date: 2004-07-17 12:16 am (UTC)Jeez. Are you not graduating in time? Or did you not apply in time?

Date: 2004-07-17 12:22 am (UTC)Sorry to hear it.
On the bright side, when Olympia finally buckles on State Taxes, you can bet the tuition will drop and they will open the doors again.
fingers crossed
Date: 2004-07-17 01:41 pm (UTC)This kind of suggests that they're just full and are deferring people already, which you half-expected.
Re: fingers crossed
Date: 2004-07-17 05:33 pm (UTC)Oh, no, sorry. I forget that "winter" is January. Erfl. It'll still be a tight squeeze. Maybe I have an advantage in being a new admission "adult" pursuing a degree that is not available elsewhere in the state.
I wish I felt at home taking a position with the legislature. Perhaps I will read your position statement for edumacation.
*stomps feet*
Date: 2004-07-17 08:16 am (UTC)The only glimmer I see in all this is that if you do apply when they reopen for transfers, you'll be at the top of the pack with all your lovely 4.0s.
Re: *stomps feet*
Date: 2004-07-17 01:38 pm (UTC)I'll be at the top assuming they look at recent grades, yeah. I have a lot of zeroes from Mt. Holyoke incompletes that do get factored in, so I only look acceptable in terms of raw GPA. I was planning to talk to an advisor in the math department even before I saw the article of doom, so maybe I can figure out what's actually going on. For one thing, they don't differentiate enough between rejection and deferral in the article.

Date: 2004-07-17 02:41 pm (UTC)I think this is extra interesting in an era when the state is apparently All Up In Arms because there are Not Enough People in WA getting Baccalaureate Degrees! We must demolish perfectly good community colleges and turn them into 4 year schools.
And yet, perhaps there is another solution. Like creating more spots at some of the existing 4 year schools???
(To be even more pessimistic, I hear that the HS class of 2008 is expected to be ginormous. Damn kids of those damn baby boomers.)
I would also be interested in the outline of a letter, although I may need to check all sorts of stupid rules from the ethics boards about how I am allowed to express my views regarding higher ed in WA state. Because of course, it more important to avoid conflicts of interest than for politicians to hear my uninformed views.
*grumble*
