independence day
Jul. 5th, 2004 12:43 pmDay-tripped the family event at the cabin due to Bat-cat's ongoing need for medication every twelve hours (antibiotics for a UTI which is much better now). Thanks to
eub for taking over one medication, allowing us to go for a significant portion of one day.
Wim's mother's garden is vastly fuller of interesting plants than it was the last time I saw it. The peony I gave her bloomed wonderfully, deep red. She's getting stuff for free and cheap all over the place. Despite my envy, I told her about seed exchanges.
Had a walk along the river looking at plants with my parents, Wim's mom, and Wim. All wound up carrying large, heavy stones from the river back to the cabin for the furtherance of pathmaking in the giant garden. Later, sausages, corn, and marshmallows were roasted, with varying degrees of success. Hair and clothing were imbued with smoke very successfully.
The baby cousin does not yet fit the sweater I made him. He is large and happy at five months, though. It is unfair that I am programmed to want to fix things for crying babies but there's nothing I can do about teething.
Came home by way of Bainbridge Island in the hopes of catching the Good Ferry, the one from which you can see the downtown fireworks. It worked! We saw most of the waterfront show, perhaps rather more of it than we should have because other people were failing to drive off the boat, which delayed the unloading by several minutes. Also observed stray sparks, lurid flashings, and loud music indicating the Lake Union fireworks on the other side of the hill.
Driving by Lake Union on the highway home, I said, "Look. At. The. Lake." It was carpeted with white and green boat lights. Probably one could not actually have crossed the lake by hopping from boat to boat, but it certainly looked that way.
