it's all context
May. 24th, 2004 07:51 pmI never liked making mud pies as a little kid. Mud didn't feel good to my hands, and I always wanted to wash it off right away. (All the nasty landscaping bark in our yard might have had something to do with it. Who wants splinters from playing in the dirt?) But now, if I'm planting flowers in my garden, playing in mud is practically a vocation.
Planted:
viola from Eli's former driveway
columbine meadow-rue
variegated Jacob's-ladder
monkshood from
lirrin
very sad plant from the Arboretum sale -- corydalis?
native bleeding heart
little tiny Claytonia that came with the bleeding heart
Still pretty down, but I got a lot done and at least feel satisfied.
The peas are almost big enough to eat! And a few of the garbanzos I soaked and planted are healthy little vines. No idea whether they'll get to the fruiting stage, they could be adapted to anywhere, but it'll be fun to grow them.
The landlord complimented my volunteer foxgloves. I need to figure out how to say "I'm happy you like them" on short notice. It took me about five minutes to come up with that phrase, and I am never able to memorize it.
