As usual, the Making Light comments section has been very good to me.

Glass Insects by Michael Mangiafico will scare you if you are frightened of any creepy-crawly (is that oblique enough, dustbath?), I think, but for those of us who are not they are way cool.

Also reminds me of the collection of glass flowers at the Harvard natural history museum (http://www.hmnh.harvard.edu/exhibitions/glassflowers.html). I think they're extra cool when you think about the fact that these were the only type of durable scientific model for many a year.

Yes, I saw those flowers. They're very impressive, even if age and paint have made them look a lot like plastic.

Will it make you jealous to know that my parent-people have two or three of these insects? :) Of course, they're chummy with the guy that makes them, and have done several art trades with him. They're amazing things... so detailed and delicate... *sigh* hmm, I should have a marble icon.
