Some really lovely Fibonacci-related quilts at Bryerpatch Studio (from Making Light comments). I don't think much of printing onto fabric, usually, but then I've never seen anything half so cool at that dandelion quilt done with it.

Of course I've been wishing for Elaine Ellison's Mathematical Quilts book and its sequel since my last trip to Math n' Stuff, even if I do have to scoff at its "No sewing required" subtitle.

If only I had time for more projects.

yeah, I caught myself getting weirdly jealous of her detialed descriptions of blah blah putting the dandelions down with the lid open and hand dyed material. then I remembered *I* had a scanner and hand dyed material too, though of course I've never done anything quite that neato.

I think I've only encountered the trick of using a printer on fabric in the context of making repeated designs, like that one of hers with the birds on it. I don't like it there because it seems like cheating. The photrealistic dandelions, though, are very cool, and I want to experiment with that technique.

First: yay! Thanks for posting this. Now I have a picture of the quilt on my office door. Go color printer at work!

Second: It seems to me that there is something inherently important about the scalability of the image in this quilt, so printing on to fabric is justified as a way to preserve that important feature.

You're welcome.

It's not just one image, either, and different parts of them are used. It is definitely okay.

Drool... Never mind more projects, I don't even have time to look at the friggin' web sites in detail.

oh neat! funny, too -- i've just started taking pictures of the dandelions here with the intent of making something of them after i've gotten various good images of part of their lifecycle. they are so cheerful and yet everyone bitches about them, *heh*.

i've also been tempted to find out how to make dandelion wine.

I was taught to hate them as things that mar the grassiness of the lawn, but that way lies a dislike of moss. Obviously wrong. Even cat's-ears are nice, though less elegant of leaf and seed-head than proper dandelions.

I don't like more than a tiny taste of bitterness, so it doesn't seem like I'd enjoy dandelion wine. Certainly it's a neat idea, though.

So many. I also really like Button Weed #2 (http://www.bryerpatch.com/images/quiltrecords/button_weed2/qrec_buttonweed2.htm), especially the stitching detail (http://www.bryerpatch.com/images/quiltrecords/button_weed2/detail_large113k.jpg).
