The Alchemist's Door, Lisa Goldstein
Mar. 30th, 2004 06:31 pmI don't think I can read this. It sounds mildly interesting (I feel that I should care more about John Dee than I do), and the blurbs are good, so it was a reasonable thing to grab at the library. But I have a profound difference with its design. The cover is fine if a little Klimt-derivative (and is that meant to be his arm?), but the title page has an extremely Mackintosh rose. I twitched, argh, totally wrong period!, but persevered. It just won't work, though. All the chapter numbers and first lines are done in an Arts-and-Crafts font. Bleh bleh bleh. I suppose I'll keep trying.
