a good day
Mar. 26th, 2004 06:45 pmWoke up at almost ten, with Wim and me both in a good mood.
The time spent messing about online is not wasted provided one is making chicken stock at the same time, and I was.
Took a bus trip to Pacific Fabrics, where they'd said they had the yarn I needed to finish the baby sweater I'm working on. Could not find it, argh. Asked around and found that they did have just a few skeins lying in a hidden basket, left over from when they had actually carried the stuff. The basket was a mess and some skeins refused to part from others, but they did have the colorway I needed. Got enough to make another project after this one, since the stuff ("Sugar Babies", feh, but it's washable cotton and a good texture) seems to be hard to find in town.
Barely missed a bus, wandered in the lovely wind down to the transit center, and almost missed another but got lucky.
Spent a bus-interval at home reading, since I'd forgotten the grocery list. Went to catch the bus, realized I'd forgotten the list again, and came back in.
Took my bike!, perhaps ill-advisedly, to PCC instead of waiting for another bus. Spent Wim's money there and at Albertson's. (PCC doesn't have trashy peanut butter, and I needed some. Also got a Creme Egg and verified that they are still strangely compelling.) Rode partway home but walked up the steep bit, despite the ignominy, partly because the groceries were hurting my shoulders and partly because I was attempting wisdom. Knees seem okay so far, but tomorrow morning will tell.
The first part of the steep hill back was all over cherry petals, and I was walking the bike underneath these soft fluffy branches of lovely light pink. Single flowers, green leaves, my favorite kind of cherry tree. They smelled like sugar cookies and roses and rain.
Worked on a Penrose tiling for the baby blanket for Cousin #2's sprog. I'm not assembling this blanket, just making my one-square contribution. Gutta-resist painting technique this time, I think. It suits the design and won't intimidate people too much.
Stockmaking continued. I put spices into jars instead of bags. I should organize the table next, but that'll be much easier when my mom brings me more file folders.
I've had a headache most of the day, but life is good.
