When a sign in the store says, "Pet the cat at your own risk", do not assume that the worst he will do is wrestle your arm a bit or leave dents in the skin. Even if he starts out licky and snuggling into a shopping basket, keep your guard up. Them's carnivores, and their teeth can slice your left index finger just as well as they can mouseflesh. (Right by the nail, too, little bastard. Ow.)

Ow ow ow. Keep the wound very clean and disinfect it. Cat mouths have some nasty stuff in them.

Yeah, what she said! I've had some nasty difficult-to-heal cat scratches, and I know someone who was made very sick by her own cat scratching her.

I think the ten minutes where it bled copiously is likely to have helped. When I finally got home, I did wash it out well and put antibiotic goo onto it, so I hope it'll be okay. I'm probably fretful enough about it that I'll notice if anything goes wrong.

I'm a little comforted by the fact that the cat is indoor-only, but there's still a lot of stuff they touch and lick that I really don't want injected into my bloodstream.

Bleeding copiously is a plus. The people I know who had trouble with cat bites had puncture wounds. Doctors and ERs take animal bites seriously, so don't hesitate if you don't like the look of it.

If nothing's wrong by now, though, you're quite likely fine.

We have a neurotic cat who occasionally bites, but she hasn't any teeth left, so it makes no matter.
