I love old encyclopedias. When my parents gave away the 1966 World Book set with the article about how mothers in Russia were only allowed to see their babies three times a day, I was ticked. The 1911 Brittanica online isn't going to make up for that, but it soothes the pain a little.

A very clever person has written a Python script that pulls haiku-like excerpts out of text files. Some examples from the GPL and the script and readme file are given at the site.

If your sense of wonder needs a boost, maybe An Atlas of the Universe will help you too. Some of you already know a lot about what's out there, but for me just looking at it makes me content as a cat in a sunbeam.

My affection for lileks.com is probably known by now, but I feel I must point out the American motel postcards.

Lileks.com looks like a bastion of normality compared to this bizarre map art, if you ask me.
