jinianI love old encyclopedias. When my parents gave away the 1966 World Book set with the article about how mothers in Russia were only allowed to see their babies three times a day, I was ticked. The 1911 Brittanica online isn't going to make up for that, but it soothes the pain a little.
A very clever person has written a Python script that pulls haiku-like excerpts out of text files. Some examples from the GPL and the script and readme file are given at the site.
If your sense of wonder needs a boost, maybe An Atlas of the Universe will help you too. Some of you already know a lot about what's out there, but for me just looking at it makes me content as a cat in a sunbeam.
My affection for lileks.com is probably known by now, but I feel I must point out the American motel postcards.
Lileks.com looks like a bastion of normality compared to this bizarre map art, if you ask me.
