update on the screaming, transfer stuff
Oct. 15th, 2003 06:02 pmMath teacher says the quiz won't count (not sure why he gave it, then), he didn't grade the ones people took (bound to annoy them), and he'll try to fit in another, since that seemed to be what people preferred. He had no explanation for why he didn't mail until so late; I suspect, given that and the fact that he gave the quiz, he wasn't quite thinking about things as much as he should've been. We did set up a protocol for what happens if class is really canceled, but no one has any idea what happened. Still annoyed, but can tolerate the situation and didn't have to throw anything at him.
Today I went in early and finished my chem lab for the week without breaking any crucibles, yay! Chem class was still boring and unhelpful, but he promised to go over redox equations tomorrow, which will bring us almost ahead of the homework that's due.
After class, I went and did UW transfer stuff. Saw an advisor in the bio department, who was pretty helpful and gave me a list of plant-bio degree requirements. (Tasty-looking classes...) He wasn't sure about a lot of the specifics of transfer admissions, so I went and talked to someone in the admissions office. That was useful; she couldn't give me an official evaluation, but she was able to tell me that they do evaluate GPA including Fs as zeroes. Unfortunately, since MHC makes all incompletes Fs after a bit, I have a good many of those. However! The Direct Transfer Agreement is still in effect for students who will finish spring quarter 2004, which is just when I will finish, and the GPA needed for that is 2.75. I'm already over that, though not by much, and I'm sure I'll do fine this quarter too, so I should be accepted at the UW no problem. The only likely source of trouble is the fact that they are so full; if my admission were to be deferred past fall 2004 I might fall out of the DTA and have to convince them a bit more.
Other good information: I should try to take BIO 201, because that transfers directly to BIO 200 of the UW's 180-200-220 series. No big deal if I can't fit it in, but it'd allow me to jump directly into the department, which might be nice. I should not bother taking either 202 or 203, because the material in those is distributed differently. The course equivalency guide is here. And I need to take the rest of the physics series! At least, I need 102. Not "may", actually "have to". Yay! I might have to do more English comp instead of 103, but we'll see. The admissions person said I should wait until my fall grades are in and then apply to the UW, and once I have an application open I can give them AP scores and my MHC transcript.
I do think they might make this all easier for me, but finally it's coming together some. It feels good.
