jinian: (little totoro)

I have a pea flower! One whole pea flower! (And another inflorescence coming.) I kept squirming and grinning all through breakfast. Wim would look at me funny, and I'd say, "PEA!" I think I am making up for not having grown vegetables as a little kid.

Wim, I remembered what I was going to tell you this morning. Yesterday afternoon, I was upstairs in my bedroom when I heard a great banging. I went to see what it was, and there was a crow perched on the outside sill of the window across from the upstairs hallway. The cats were entranced, of course, so I asked it if it was messing with their tiny minds. I went back into my room and it flew away. The reason I remembered is that a crow yelled at me this morning and flew fairly low over my head as I left for class. Do I have a friend or an enemy here?

I am all over pain today. It is ridiculous and needs to stop. My schoolwork is being affected. I wish I were sure what to do about it.

pain is no good. is this foot related? if it is foot related or joint related or heck even muscle related, i would take advil or alleve or orudis, whichever one likes you best, and also a hot bath.

then i would call the doctor. are you currently insured?

pain

Kylee has 'way too many sorts of pain these days. She has been taking various OTC painkillers as appropriate though. (I hand't heard of Orudis / Ketoprofen before ... I guess it's been a long time since I had chronic pain myself. Hmm, a drugstore.com faq.)

I like the crow story though. (is that why the door to that room was open?) Maybe we should brush up on our augury skills?

ketoprofen is good good stuff, and is also difficult to buy otc nowadays. it's legal and all, but no one sells it. grr. (if you can prove me wrong, i will send you money to buy some for my household.)

let me second the drag her to the doctor theory, then. at the very least, better painkillers can be had.

I'm not, somehow. Moving seems to have messed up my billing schedule, and I got kicked off COBRA. But I'm going to the acupuncturist on Sunday.

I'll look around for ketoprofen, since I haven't tried that one yet. I really need to look up again and find out which painkillers hurt which organs, so I can be sure to vary them appropriately.

tylenol takes out your liver.

everything else otc (aspirin, anything-profen, aleve)eats holes in your stomach and then is hard on your kidneys.

tylenol is a fever reducer and a pain reliever.

the other ones are fever reducers, pain relievers, and anti-inflammatories of various sorts and effectivenesses.

Ouchety ouch get better soonly vibes from here, and doctor-and-meds expedite beams if needed, too.

Crows give some people messages, you know. How many times did it call? (Or, if you do not recall, try to catch how many times it calls next, if it does. If you want to, I mean, of course.)

neat!

I don't remember how many times it called. Two or three the window-tapping time, I think. We'll have to see what happens when I go to class today.

big words!

you said "inflorescence". pardon me while i *swoon*.

bad pain. go away, pain. *makes ineffectual handwaving motions*. sometimes, here at least, and you probably know this, and i am done disclaimering for now, druggists keep some OTC stuff behind the counter anyway, though one just need to ask for it. the acetaminophen with codeine frex. (no, you won't find that one in the US, but you might find the ketoprofen that way.)

last time i had a crow follow me around it didn't like me. *sniff*. it actually did strife me several times, touching my hat. maybe it didn't like the hat; it does look goofy.

What do you think is wrong with your feet? I echo that seeing a doctor would be a Very good plan. Once you have been seen by a medical professional who can certify there is genuinely something wrong, you will be able to make arrangements about school work. Most colleges have a disabilities officer, and what a lot of people don't realise is these people are able to help with temporary as well as permanent disabilities. If you have an injury that is affecting your work, you really should let the college know.

It can only work to your advantage - firstly, they may be able to be more lenient with deadlines, secondly it may be possible for you to make special arrangements. I don't know if you're having to walk around a lot there or stand up for long periods or carry heavy things... If you normally travel by public transport but can't manage the walking, funding might be available for taxis. Perhaps you would be allowed extra time in exams, so that you can have a break in the middle? Or be allowed to sit at the back so you can walk around or sit on the floor or do whatever you need to do to ease the pain. There's nothing worse than trying to concentrate on an exam for three hours when you're in terrible pain.

There are literally hundreds of arrangements that can be made, and a disabilities officer will know where to start. Even now, before you have a diagnosis, it might be an idea to talk to them and let them know you have a problem. If finding a doctor is a problem (damn that whole US system!), they might know of someone who can see you cheaply.

If your college is too small to have a disabilities officer, there will be other welfare people who will cover the same job. They probably won't be as good at it as someone who only deals with disability access, but again, it's still a lot better than struggling on by yourself.

I really do feel strongly about this. I struggled on during my postgraduate time, and managed to completely screw up my chances of getting a PhD. If I had've thought to get help, I'd still be enrolled on that now - rather than having been booted off to the lesser MPhil. In a way, it's my own fault for being too damned stubborn to ask for help. Don't make the same mistake.
