morning photos
Feb. 5th, 2003 10:43 am![[If you don't eat your celery, the bus stop dinosaur will get you!]](https://p2.dreamwidth.org/ffe24b15d000/678086-176568/underhill.hhhh.org/~igg/dino.jpg)
I've been meaning to take a picture of this guy for a while, and I finally remembered when I had the camera with me. I wish there were a formal archive of bus-stop art, because it always gets defaced. The gallery at Metro's site does have some of my favorites, but not in the loving detail that I want them. This picture is retouched a little because the sky above the dinosaur was dirty.
![[This makes up for all the days when we're missing the -top- of the Space Needle.]](https://p2.dreamwidth.org/84a584b0c2e1/678086-176568/underhill.hhhh.org/~igg/needle-020503.jpg)
I was almost glad to be at work early just for this. A couple of minutes before, the shot was better, of course, but since the photos never come out as well as the seeing I had to call Ellen over to look at it first. I'd woken up to encompassing fog, but it had mostly cleared by the time I got to work -- except, apparently, right over Seattle Center. The Space Needle was a flat gray silhouette attached to a matching gray cloud, with the sun behind it. I rather like the crane there, but it's a pity about the wires. One takes what one can get.

I was trying to describe the anthers on these flowers yesterday afternoon but didn't do too well. The camera I have won't take pictures of things that small, but I got some good shots trying.

<img src="http://underhill.hhhh.org/~igg/begonia-leaf.jpg" alt="[This is why it's "corkscrew".]"><br>
The other end of the leaf curls around underneath. I love the new leaves. They're thick with dark pink fur and very curly already. As they grow, the curl relaxes a little and the aristae diminish in length, color, and softness. All of the leaves are green-and-light-green from the top, but this shot shows a little bit of the red you see if you look through them from the bottom.
It is supposedly illegal to reproduce this plant, which is enough to make me want to try.
Does anyone want userpics of these? I was thinking <lj site="livejournal.com" user="elynne"> for the dino (which I've already made, but lack a slot for) and <lj site="livejournal.com" user="rubricity"> for the leaf. :)
