I found a pot of paperwhite narcissus by the side of the road this morning. Half the flowers were broken and dangling, but it's been cool and misty and they were still in good shape for cut flowers. I'm not sure whether someone lost them last night or this morning. Apparently I was right coming back to work when I did. They smell wonderful. Maybe I'll plant them out in Quilcene; I doubt they'll bloom this spring since they're forced now, but I bet they'll get around to coming back eventually.

Had to leave peculiar voice mail for the apartment manager last night. The empty units are left unlocked, and I wanted to see the TOCOTOXen's place emptied of their stuff, so I went in on the way back from the bookstores. I thought someone had put that carpet-shrinkwrap on, at first, because there was a crackly noise. Wait, no, that's a squelching noise. The entry-area carpet was soaking wet, probably because of the pressure washing of the outside walkways earlier that day. So I had to say something, since it might mildew (or just look bad to prospective tenants) (besides, I'd left footprints), but then I had to explain... I went with "feeling nostalgic, you know, my friends used to live there." We'll see if she talks to me about it. Or if the empty units get locked from now on.

I'd have gone with 'I have someone who may be interested in the place, and I wanted to take a look through so I knew what to tell them'. Which for me has been true - every time a place comes up in our building I try to take a look through it before announcing it to folks.

I'm kind of surprised that the pressure washing water got into that apartment, though. I should check out the one next to me tonight and see if the same thing happened.

Yeah, but she knows we knew each other, so I thought the other one made more sense in her life. She doesn't know we weren't talking much.

Bad door seal, I think. They'd had trouble with it before.

I doubt they'll make a stink about it. It's no real secret for tenants that the doors get left unlocked. It does suck about the door seal, but they would probably have replaced the carpet anyway, with how long they'd lived there.

I think casually mentioning some sordid detail would have been funny, what's she going to do? then again, my landlord spilled comparable guts to me when I overshared a little this summer and not everyone can count on that. heh.

Perhaps not on her answering machine, dear. :)
