Woke up after wonderful Cirque du Soleil and too-hot night, still sick.
Languished, puttered, and read.
Worried, called Wim, heard Wim drive up.
Took the car to the ferry ($11.25, holy fuck); after a few anxious moments, made it on to the rather full boat that was at the wrong dock.
Ate lunch & stood on the front of the ferry.
Drove to outback Bainbridge Island.
Had acupuncture, massage, and a session with the little pendulum thing even I don't believe in. Paid money and got some herbs.
Got a tip from my strange, nice puncturist that there were windfall apples I could have up in the orchard & walked there past the temple, where someone was playing drums, and beautiful breast-shaped spiderwebs glistening in the sun.
Found that a doe had gotten to the apples as well, approached her slowly and nonchalantly, but eventually got close enough that she refused to stick around. She and a fawn ran off stage left, I continued on more briskly, and a more laggardly fawn emerged right and exited left.
Discovered three smallish yellow apples. Broke the largest one open & left it under the wrong tree for the deer.
Returned to car and, after a long delay in a line of cars, to ferry ($11.25 again, didn't they used to give you a price break going back?).
Stood on the front of the boat & listened to extremely self-possessed children from Redding, CA, and suburban NY getting to know each other. Jeremy likes to play football and race BMX bikes, and is almost twelve. The NY boy likes computer programming -- you know, C++, BASIC, Fortran, Pascal. (His list, not mine! Fortran!)
Waited in another line of cars while a freight train learned to cha-cha for about twenty minutes, then another slight backup passing the ballpark.
Escaped eventually, shopped, parked in an almost parallel fashion,
came home.
Feeling lots better.
