Getting the tattoo I want would cost a lot of money that I'm trying not to spend, so I shouldn't do it. Right? I'll just dye my hair and try to channel my body-mod energy that way awhile.

Also it would take time that I should be using to finish my embroidery so my mom doesn't kick my ass.

Wow, my excuses are getting thinner by the minute.

I think describing the tattoo here (with links/pictures)
would be a good use of your time :)

Right. You should wait until you can afford it.

Now while you're waiting, if you don't mind I'd be interested in knowing what it's going to look like when you do get it.

It will be a botanical drawing (which I'm planning to do myself since I can't find one from the right angle) of the leaves and flower of Trillium ovatum (http://plantsdatabase.com/go/2731/). If I get more, I want them to be plants too. I've loved trilliums since I was little, but the older I get the more I adore plants in general, particularly native PNW ones, which this is. (I am looking at the escargot begonia (http://www.mchutchison.com/images/escargot/escargot.jpg) on my desk right now, though, and thinking what a beautiful plant it is...)

What you can't see in that picture of the escargot begonia is that the new leaves are all fuzzed in pink and ripply-soft. The fuzz spreads out and fades to transparency as the leaves mature. Mine has four leaves, one still with a pink aura, and a baby fifth. It's just a joy to have around.

That is a very pretty plant, and imagining the greens surrounding the white petals imposed on your creamy skin provides a pleasing image. I'm not a big fan of tattos in general, but if somebody wants one, that flower is the sort of image that would stand up well over time.

The tat I've wanted for about five years would cost $300-$400. I have that much extra, from time to time, but always find another use for it. It's really not that I don't want the tat, I just don't want it as much as, say, a safe CV joint, or a dog.

tattoos are better value than hair coloring

They last much longer. So, really, are you saving any money?

(And thank you for the reminder that my budget for the summer needs to have some money allocated for my tattoo.)

I am trying to be thrifty at the moment, since my last electric bill was ridiculous and I have to pay too much to go to the family reunion next month. It's a temporary fix sort of thing. Later I will be able to spend larger amounts of money.

Whatcha going to get?

Ah, ok, I understand the temporary need of frugality.

My first tattoo will be a kokopelli on my upper right arm. In a terra cotta kind of color.

My second one will be a pineapple but I haven't decided wear yet.
