affaire de coeur
Nov. 29th, 2001 09:23 amHave you ever flirted with someone for months on end, thinking each time you saw them among their friends that they were clearly the best, the most attractive, the one who would enhance and maybe even perfect your life? The friends are lovely, and you see traits in each of them that you really like, but that particular someone is the right one, no question about it. And then you can't really muster the nerve to approach them... so you just keep coming to back to where you know you'll find them, and dreaming of the day you'll take them home.
And when at last you are ready to take the leap, you're surprised. From the perspective of readiness, the someone in question doesn't look nearly so interesting. One of the other people who's always around, though -- hey, you've never really looked at her before. Look at the symmetry, the delicacy, the precision of movement. That's the right one. How did you not
see that before?
It happened to me just last night. So I bought a beautiful cut-paper piece made by this person instead of "Goddess Reverses the Food Chain" like I'd been intending to. The one I got doesn't appear on that page -- I really should have taken a picture of it when I got it home -- but it's rather like STREAM.
(Okay, so it's a cornball writing trick. I really do flirt with art, and I'm a bit giddy yet.)
