Well, here is where I'm a bad person: part of the reason my favorite people are my favorites is because they have problems. We learn to deal with difficult stuff and it makes us more awesome.
Yes, this. I also really value being able to interact in a way that isn't geographically based just because a lot of the things I'm interested in tend to have fairly small populations of people who are interested in them as well, so it's way easier finding more people to talk to online than in person. That, and I feel like I never quite react "right" in person.
