This post covers the Comb Festival parade only, because I took dozens of photos! These are Japanese women's traditional clothing and hairstyles, presented in chronological order.

(I think this lady is dressed to do some actual work, unlike most here.)

(Not the only time we saw unnaturally colored hair on an older woman. Wim says he thinks it happens just as often here, but I think it was a lot more.)

(About this time is where the combs really became a major feature.)

(Except for this one girl, who had to polish a car later.)

(Old hairstyle, new hairstyle. The braid in front was very on trend.)

(I loved the super-traditional attire and the camera-phones together at this parade.)

(Yay red hair! And a very cute smirk.)

(Taisho era: very Westernized.)

(The different treatments for the edge-of-paint areas were fascinating.)
