awesome day!
Jan. 15th, 2011 12:11 amI got up quite early and felt fresh instead of logy.
Delicious cookies for lab meeting and a croissant for me from PCC (no self checkout, though).
Still the good child in lab.
Lab meeting presentation came together well.
Pizza! A million grads came to eat the pizza! and I got to gossip with them!
Lab meeting presentation went great. I erred slightly on the side of too little info, but expanded very clearly when asked, so got about a thousand points there. Pretty pictures always help, and I'd done well integrating hypotheses into the flow. Go me. (Also there was cake; birthday cake puts PI in a better mood, and she was already feeling fine.) PI said my presentation was "like an experienced postdoc" -- woo! Wim suggests I make a bar for my existing REAL SCIENTIST ribbon with this additional phrase.
Had to get cat food. Made a short side trip to Val Vill for a shirt to match my awesome skirt (on which I was complimented several times today) -- my selection was very limited this morning and then I sweated on them while presenting, ew. Found the perfect shirt! An important button fell off, but I replaced it promptly.
Went to happy hour at the museum and spent quality time being a mammal expert, at least compared to all the non-bio people. Among way too many people, my name tag peeled right off my new synthetic-fiber shirt, and I replaced it with half of M's when she eventually showed up. I lost that one too.
Went out to the Rat and Raven pub, which has adorable wall paintings of a rat and raven doing things together, decent basic food, and a full bar. Learned to play tabletop shuffleboard! Failed to play pinball well, but had fun as always.
Caught my bus perfectly on my way home and read the Stranger.
Ate tiny stink-peels and r-e-l-a-x-e-d for the first time in days.
Tomorrow, okay, some work to do, but also Mom/Wim birthday dinner and hopefully some playing with clay before that.
