Gwoemul (English title The Host) is a Korean monster movie, not very graphically violent, with incredibly great characters -- all the members of the family are kinda screwups, each in their own way, and they all mess up and they all kick ass. Lots of reviewers are raving about the monster effects, which were highly realistic with very few fumbles. I didn't find the plot predictable, and dorky humor was used brilliantly to manage the level of tension. The English subtitles are of unusually high quality and considered placement, too. I found it way more compelling than any other monster movie I've seen, probably because it's about humans who aren't stereotypes (and whom I am not cheering the monster on to eat) and care about each other. [One warning: be prepared for some truly creepy medical scenes.]

(Me? Migrainish today. Still overtired. Cats not affected by wheat gluten of doom.)

I guess I still like dogs (so cute):

Movie sounds interesting but faux-medical-fetish girl probably will skip it, at least in the theaters.

I was wondering about that movie. Now that Ebert isn't reviewing movies I have no professional reviewers I trust. Based on your review I've put it on my Netflix queue. Thanks!
