nuva ring performance review
Dec. 21st, 2005 10:03 amA fine, immense thread on menstruation over
misia's way reminded me I was going to post a three-month performance review for the Nuva Ring.
Reduction of cramps: Yes. Way better, though still probably on the bad side of normal. The cause is uncertain, however, since I cut way back on eating nightshades at around the same time; that appears to have helped my right hand's frequent stiffness, so reducing cramps would make sense too.
Use as birth control: Still not pregnant. No problem with having intercourse. I think it's pretty impressive how the ring just stays in place until I pull it out. And there have been no more dreams about having to check it constantly. :)
Emotional upheaval: Oh yes. Every one of these three months I have had a crying jag in which I break capillaries in my eyelids, and I've been unable to get out of the negative feelings the way I mostly can with PMS. This is way worse than things usually get, and that's really not okay. I'm hoping the moodiness settles down, because I don't really want to have to decide between mental and physical doom.
Headaches: Some. Mostly nagging sub-migraines that make my eyes hurt and go one for a couple of days but don't respond to migraine drugs; mostly right after I take the ring out and right after I put it in. This is an acceptable trade for the bad cramps.
Period regularity: Not that bad. I had an extra one in month 2, but otherwise the bleeding has happened when the ring wasn't in, very conveniently. Oddly, I'm getting heavier flow for longer than I usually do, but that's all right now that I know to expect it.
