American Red Cross banned from New Orleans. I have nothing to say. [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija has a little.

(I gave them my money! That I didn't really have! What -- ARGH!)

They still have plenty to do outside NO -- lots of evacuees need aid. (Not that I'm not outraged, although I think they aren't banned so much as told "it's not safe enough for you yet" -- and that might be accurate.)

It's true that the Red Cross still has a lot to do, but the people who are worst off are the ones I want them to help first, you know? Especially since more comfortable people are getting out first (http://www.kplctv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3803282).

not so.

Acess to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.

i'd call that "banned".

and here is the glorious reason why:

Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

this is more idiotic bullshit from DHS.
