[No, Wim, not DEATH camas.]

Some of the camas seeds that were being fridge-stratified in December had grown short fat roots that were visible in the crevasses of the crumpled wet paper towel they were in, so I figured it was time to plant them out. They're very lovely native plants, and I have what may be an excessive regard for them, so I went out on the lawn with my expensive seedling soil and pots and tweezers and water to pot them. (It's the tweezers that make me feel silly, but I didn't want to damage root hairs any more than I had to.) I carefully potted up the 18 germinated seeds, leaving plenty of room, and put the 16 ungerminated ones in marked pots, with a bit less room since they haven't proven they'll thrive. We'll see.

One of my primroses was mauled last week by something that bit off some of its flowers and dragged it all the way out of its pot and into the driveway, and there's always been some digging in the pots on the porch. It's not acceptable for the camas to be risked so. This is where the goth comes in. What I decided on for protection was this black tulle I had left over from making fairy wings for Midsummer. I guess the fact that I chose hideously alligator-skin-imprinted white gift boxes for drip trays/things to staple tulle to might undermine their gothicity, but what the hell. It's ironic.
