jinian: (attack zero)
I was no use to anyone today once I got glued to Senator Wendy Davis' unusually relevant and compelling filibuster in the Texas Senate. If there had been any good will in that Senate instead of pure partisanship, she would have changed minds and cleansed hearts today.

I watched and listened to the stream for hours, and I am sure that no proper vote was taken before midnight. Texas Republican Senators seem to be claiming otherwise; Democratic Senators say they did not vote or know a vote was being taken. (Also? Previous restrictions on abortion are germane to the discussion of further restrictions on abortion, so that filibuster should never have been interfered with. Not to mention that reasonable disability accomodation is a federal law.) Seriously dodgy rules-apply-to-others bullshit from these Repubs is what I saw.

Also useless: ALL MAJOR NEWS NETWORKS. Not a snip of information was up there about the entire thing while it went down, then they started getting information from one single source and claiming the thing passed. For actual news, Twitter and the livestream were the only options.

Awesome people included Davis of course, but also Sens. Van de Putte, West, and Zaffirini, and the shouting, cheering, hell-raising protestors in and outside the room.
