Feeling much, much better physically. Still taking it a little easy on food, but I've successfully eaten at two Japanese places and the amazing Chungee's Chinese on Capitol Hill without getting sick. Yesterday I was entirely free of gut pain, which was awesome.

Quote of the day, from Wim: "My new phone has only a sort of animal cunning."

I've been telling my labmates to be patient with the weather, but this is ridiculous. I should not be wearing fleece socks in July.

Had a really bad mood crash last night, probably PMS. I guess it's been a few months since I had a serious crying jag, which is a good thing; wish the streak had continued. Today has been more of a normal grouchy melancholy deal. I am not going out tonight, just relaxing at home. I suppose it's still possible I'll change my mind to brave the chill and light rain, but as I can't find my camera right now it's more likely I'll stay comfortably under a blanket.

It turns out to be pretty great to wander over to Wallingford Ave around fireworks time. As people walking by mentioned while I was out playing in the dirt today, folks do in fact drag their couches into the street and watch the show from there. Radios are playing the music, albeit with commentary, and it's not crowded at all. Little kids have kid-sized deck chairs in the middle of the street, and taxi drivers pull over to check out the fireworks too. There are idiots behind you, but there are always idiots behind you. (And the idiots had a few funny moments: "attacking aphids" for little green chasy fireworks and "go Patty Murray!" during the obRedWhiteBlue bits; no shout-out to Jim McDermott, though, which would've been appropriate since I imagine he is just as stoned as they were.)
