jinian: (Wiscon braid)
Woke way too early, 6am Madison time. No excuse for this, as any lag should go the other way. Rested and read. Eventually [livejournal.com profile] kalmn's duck alarm quacked and I got up. Planned transit, wandered down State Street for breakfast (giving up one door short of the place I was looking for, but they had food too), and ran mostly unsuccessful errands. What kind of yarn store runs out of tapestry needles?

Came back and set up for the clothing swap, forgetting to eat. The clothing swap was so much fun! I stayed the whole time talking to other volunteers and matching people to clothes. My haul included a black lingerie corset (boning but no real cinchability) and N.K. Jemisin's ballgown, which matches my hair. My beloved velvet gown did not work for anyone, so I'm bringing it back home with me.

Relaxed, worked on progress report to NSF, went out to Casa Lara by myself for dinner (orange-flavored carnitas, really delicious). Hit the bookstore again and met con people including author Jacqueline Houtman, who was taking a photo of her book on the real live bookstore shelf. Bought one, which she signed to me. :)

Changed into my red Junko Mizuno dress and went to the Lady Gaga panel. References to follow up: The Knife, Orlan, the Gaga Stigmata blog.

Went to karaoke, but wasn't enthralled; did meet someone who'd loved my velvet dress at the clothing swap and been to the Gaga panel, and she turned out to be a font geek. Oho! "Neutra Face" for you! She was delighted. I could go home now and feel like it was a successful con. Returned to karaoke, still wasn't that into it; it started to feel awkward that no one was dancing with anyone but their friends. Biologists do it better. Tried the party floor, but despite talking to a few people was still confused and annoyed by that kind of party. Agreed with [livejournal.com profile] polyfrog that there needs to be a track of kids' programming for adults: Legos, building forts, ball room.

Book finished: Ooku v3, Fumi Yoshinaga.
Still reading: Slow Funeral, Rebecca Ore; Cloud and Ashes, Greer Gilman.

Tomorrow, I will look into volunteering for something else, since that worked well for being social around a task. Also, farmer's market, art show, look for [livejournal.com profile] elisem in dealer's room.
