being the bird's boyfriend

Right now, the cockatiel Chairman Kaga is broody. She's laid three eggs over the last week or so, and she's cleared them a little bare spot in the shavings in the bottom of her cage. (They're obviously going to be colder that way, but instinct is not especially reasonable.) Most of the day and night she crouches over them, rocking back and forth a little and nudging them under her fluffed-out breast feathers and wings. What this means to me:

1. She is quieter than sometimes.

2. She doesn't actually defecate while on the eggs, or eat much either. She waits to do that until she feels secure. That would be when she's on my shoulder, because I am the birdie boyfriend. Thus I have a Bird Smock that I wear over my regular clothes before I leave in the morning, because when she holds it for a while it gets really disgusting. Ironically, I often have to pry her off the eggs so she can poop, even though I know the horrible consequences.

3. She is a Bird of Love and needs to be scritched most all the time. At least whenever she's not hissing at you for walking near HER EGGS.

4. I don't think the way she's taken to biting my fucking ear lately is related, but I would just like to say OW.
