mystery bulbs of strange mystery
Sep. 22nd, 2004 10:53 pmSome of the bulbs I got in the grab bag from
lirrin earlier this year were obviously crocus bulbs, and none of those have bloomed. The other ones were mostly lightly scaled corms with either yellow or salmon to pink skin under the flaky light brown outside layers, and two of the larger representatives of those did bloom a few weeks ago. Turns out they're pink and streaky salmon gladiolus. Will the yellow bulbs produce yellow glads next year? We shall see.
I also took a bonus shot of my favorite geranium, the supposed apple-nutmeg scented one. It has leaves soft beyond velvet and shaped like William Morris wished he could draw. It does not smell like apple at all, but it's certainly spicy in a nutmegward direction, with maybe a bit of camphor.
