"Holy shit," I just said aloud, looking out the window. "That is snow." I didn't exactly think the weather forecasters were wrong when I heard secondhand (on Halloween, from the woman at the bus stop who gave me a tinsel crown) that there might be snow this weekend, but I assumed it was one of those vanishingly small chances. Nope. Small, heavy flakes are coming down out there. At least they're not sticking. I'd feel seriously displaced if snow were sticking in Seattle on the second day of winter.

TMBG concert YAAAAY!

Opening band was Slomo Rabbit Kick, who received a call asking them to come at --> 5pm today. So it was only half of them really. They were cute! Sweet geeky boys with extra social conscience and silliness and a strutful pigeon song. It took them a long time to get set up, and I was curious about the drummer's shirt, so I yelled, "What's your shirt say?" at him. (Someone else yelled, too, after he said "what?") It was for indiepages.com, which I have just discovered is a dangerous place. I chose the shopping page to link to because his t-shirt had the cute tiger head.

Then it took A MILLION YEARS for TMBG to come on. I should've gotten off my feet a bit then, since they were already starting to hurt, but no, I am foolish. They're already feeling better. I hope they're okay tomorrow, though.

If you want a coherent set list, talk to someone else. (Possibly [livejournal.com profile] dr4b, whom we saw, but too far away to talk to, or [livejournal.com profile] rjl20. Also saw my high-school ex but I kinda hope he's not here.) I remember "Wicked Little Critta" and "Birdhouse" and the fact that they credited cub for "New York City", which made me jump up and down a lot. And I have tissue paper from "James K. Polk" in my pocket, though it didn't match my outfit like [livejournal.com profile] thatmathchick's. The second encore -- why do people leave the first time the band is done? relatedly, where did this weird indirect communication of when you are going to get encores develop? -- started off with fine guitar playing that I recognized was stealing closer and closer to "Istanbul", and as a person uneducated in music I am a little proud of myself for noticing. It was really really fun.

(And my ears are doing much better than when we went to the Vera Project. You'd think if they were going to have cochlear implant people as concert sponsors, and allow them to come talk at us about hearing protection, they would sell earplugs at the venue rather than merely taunting us, but whatever.)

Oh! And they said they're doing in-store shows in SF and LA. www.tmbg.com (best use of stupid web tricks!) says:
San Francisco Nov. 4, 7 p.m. -- A Clean Well-Lighted Place Square, in-store performance & signing
Los Angeles Nov. 5, 7 p.m. -- Vroman's Pasadena, in-store performance & signing
Albany, NY Nov. 9, 2 p.m. -- Book House, in-store performance & signing

Not that I think I know anyone in Albany. All in range should go.
