Saw kids trooping down to the Seattle Center house on my way to work this morning. They were chanting "No war [something something]" and carrying "No Iraq war" signs and homemade pro-peace signs. Talk about heartwarming. They couldn't have been out of junior high yet.

Saw and talked to a tall man with anti-war signs at QA and Mercer. He was really happy someone was talking to him. He's called Mike, and he's one of the people responsible for those car-top signs that some of us have seen around town. After borrowing a pen, he wrote his web address down for me. I think I might go to their Buzz session tonight; apparently, I am an official Queen Anne Neighbor by virtue of working down here.

Shut Down the Town will probably be soon.

It's a beautiful, clear day, and I'm pretty sure that's a battleship moving out of the bay.

[livejournal.com profile] gwynyth made me very happy this morning by posting two links regarding a dictionary of morphemes. [livejournal.com profile] hattifattener responded to my bouncy email with a list of collective terms of animals. I didn't even know what an avocet was, and I'm really amused that the most common term for a group of three seems to be "a leash". (Fairly appropriate for some triads, I'm sure.)

Synonyms and antonyms test, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] mactavish. Only a few totally wild guesses; mostly I knew at least one word in the pair and went by feel if necessary. I got 166, what'd you get?

[Edit: removed test output of what I missed in favor of my comments, since getting all that in email with responses was annoying]

I step outside and am shocked by the moonlight. Even in the city, streetlights' shadows are a pale living blue. I look up at the moon. It's like a hole in the sky filled with blue-white glare. As I gaze at it, trying to resolve shadows on its surface, it grows larger until it seems that it's falling toward me. I try to outstare it, but the illusion grows until I have to look away and shake my head, stifling an urge to go back inside. A little warily, I look back. The moon is still very bright, but its shadows smile at me faintly.
