I correctly assumed that, when the teacher said we could come in Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday to do the second meeting of our Maple class, some people would not have finished the homework and would not come Monday. I did not expect quite the degree to which this was true. There was one other person in the class today.

I was there because I'd gotten up early, done most of the Maple tutorial, gone to the earlier chem class, and done the Maple homework, so I am feeling very virtuous. I got checked off on the classwork for today, and I took my pick of the appointments for the final (next Thursday 2-3pm and I will be done with that class!).

Also made an appointment for the lab practical in chemistry, another situation in which it was a fine thing to be in the early section. I'm rather more nervous about that because it requires actual coordination, and I can't control whether I have any of that from day to day. Please note: "break a burette" is not acceptable luck-wishing in this case. I made an early appointment for that, too, just because waiting won't improve it. (It's this Wednesday at 3pm, enough time for a bit of lunch and mental review after class.)

again with the ruling!

Yay! You now probably know more about Maple than I do anymore.

I'd suggest "Don't burn anyone with acid", but it just sounds like maternal nagging.

Hmmm, I've been trying to think of something helpful to say about chemistry practicals. But as today is Friday, you've probably done it already.

I did once own a book called The Organic Chem Lab Survival Manual which had a one-page chapter entitled "Boiling stones", the entire purpose of which was to convince you never to do an organic reaction without using boiling stones or anti-bumping granules. It was like the Monty Python episode where you keep seeing a slide of "No. 3. The larch." Er, in my mind, anyway.
