I missed seeing this last week, and found out it had been held over. Thank goodness for The Strangler. Our party ended up being me, Deb, and the narrowly convinced Wim, which was a pretty good size. Still have not met this mysterious Susan of Deb's, though.
The movie was very good fun. I hadn't seen a lot of the early stuff, having been clueless about music until fairly late, so it was really neat to see the videos and things. They had people reciting lyrics; I found it amusing for the most part but totally agree with
I was pretty annoyed with one thing, as usual. No one realizes TMBG did not write "New York City". And after a whole documentary about how they are genius songwriters, here is a little about their process, they work really well together -- here is some footage of them singing NYC, without a word about cub. (cub, one of my favorite bands, did write NYC. TMBG arranged it differently and changed a few words.) Now, I realize that "Istanbul" is also a cover, and there may be others, but it makes me grouchy that no one knows the cuddlecore coolness that was cub. I'd be really mad if cub were still together, but I suppose I should try to let it go as it is.
