fourfold path
May. 13th, 2003 02:23 pmGroping my way toward a lifestyle that works, I seem to have discovered necessary ingredients for feeling fulfilled in a day. (Well, I did this some time ago. We'll call the recent time in which I have been failing to include all of them an experiment.)
1. Bonding. With Wim, with other people I'm particularly close to. Bonding with anyone who is not a close friend is good but does not contribute much to the RDA.
2. Physical activity. With my feet still really messed up (have I mentioned that my feet are completely fucked now?), this is hard to do. Biking still works, and I can do some gardening that satisfies this.
3. Mental challenge. Generally no problem, with school going on. Writing any email that requires research works for this, too, as does messing about with book analysis. Actually, anything that requires research is good. Reading nonfiction is borderline -- depends on how engaging and challenging it is.
4. A sense of accomplishment. This one is vague and not too hard to fulfill. Making yeast bread by myself (okay, I had hints) for the first time definitely gave me this. Gardening generally qualifies, depending on the visibility of the results. Unpacking and setting up house counts. Finishing school assignments is good, too.
(I originally derived these through wondering why I'd had such a high sex drive lately. Part of it is that being interested in new people always does this, but a lot of it is that sex works for more than one of these food groups.)
