It kind of bothers me and is embarrassing that posts of which I'm kind of ashamed get me *heart*ed. I ought to be tolerant and just walk away, and I will soon, because the conversation has stopped even pretending to be about anything beyond "I am so smart"/"No, you're an idiot", but it's difficult to do. I don't think I can restrain myself from a public plonking, I just can't decide where to hang it. I wish it weren't so important to me that this dimwit not be allowed to think he's won.

Hm. I've always seen Usenet, VMS Notes, LJ political forums, mailing lists, etc. as a forum for a kind of intellectual performance art. That might be why my attitude is that I'm not out to win arguments with morons or trolls; I'm just out to make them look as stupid as possible to the other readers, hopefully while providing amusement (I'm not even particularly interested in looking intelligent or articulate while doing that). I worried a while that this was a dishonest strategy, but decided that being a moron or a troll is intellectually dishonest in and of itself, and why should I take the high road.

In other words, go get 'em!
