my mistake was going to work!
Sep. 12th, 2002 06:33 pm After work -- Bus ride unremarkable. Trip to the comic store, though: best idea ever! Not only was the new Hopeless Savages there, as soon as I walked in, my usual clerks said they had something I might be interested in... free. They gave me a Tokyopop manga sampler book! Several things I was interested in reading, a few I already read, and a couple I'd never heard of. Neato!
And then, after the already cool thing, they gave me. Free. Passes to see the preview screening of Spirited Away! Yeee!
I, er, don't think I was properly enthusiastic at them. They still seemed to have their hearing. I was too suprised to do this justice. This is incredibly cool.
Went to bookstore, no Hodgell out yet, no Dwayne back yet. Found a couple of things due to l33t sf shopping skillz. Left bookstore, unlocked bike, and was asked for directions to restaurants by a pair of out-of-towner (Burlington and Austin) women. It was just easier to walk them there, since all three places were perfectly on my way up the Ave, and I played friendly tour guide for three blocks. Confirmed recommendations where I could, added another one for Mandarin Chef, and left them happily ensconced at Tandoor. It's amazing how much of a lift it gives to be part of someone else's pleasant experience.
So, as I was asking myself between comic store and bookstore, was it worth the dead cat? Well, no. Dead cats ought not to be. All cats should live. But that would be impractical; was it worth me being the one to find the cat? Yep. Better me than so many others. Poor dear cat. I want to thank you, cat, but I don't really know what for. May you find sun and romping in the afterlife of cats.
