Tall ships are from the era of exploration by sea leading the Europeans to the Americas which resulted in massive death of indigenous persons.

I think you're right, actually. Some of the scrawlier, less legible stuff appears to be tribal names that I recognize.

That'd be my guess, too. Tall ships = the European age of exploration = smallpox and exploitation = genocide.

In related news, I went to see the tall ships thing yesterday, and it was pretty neat.
