the perils of honesty

I was talking to my dad over lunch yesterday, and he asked (again) if things were -serious- between me and Wim. I made him define "serious" and, as I'd suspected, it turned out to include plans for marriage. I told him what I think of legal marriage. (That is, that the entire idea needs reforming.)
Later, in the car, he remarked that he understood my feelings about marriage. As it happens, he thinks marriage is an unnatural state. Why would a man stick to one woman when there are all the other women in the world? Clearly men are designed to spread their seed far and wide! Torn between horror and helpless giggling, I managed to detour us onto nature vs. nurture, and that was better.
